As IDEA Fellow 2023-2024, sang Florencia Grimaldi in the reading of Florencia en el Amazon’s with Opera Reading Project!

This project was very meaningful for me because I spent my first 3 years as an infant/toddler in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where my family was working. Florencia Grimaldi, the opera diva came from Manaus, Brazil in this opera set on the cruise ship to Manaus. The opera was written by a Mexican composer Daniel Catán with an original libretto by Marcela Fuentes-Berain in Spanish, inspired by the magical realism of Gabriel García Márquez. I was grateful that we have received diction coaching with Isa Condo-Olvera and had the opportunity to meet with tenor Andres Acosta to hear about the opera production and his advice on how to approach this work.
